Knights
Knight’s underclothes were a linen undershirt, linen underpants and woollen stocking to cover their legs. Underclothes were very important for the knights because they stopped chafing from the armour. They would also wear a quilted coat stuffed with linen or grass; this added extra padding and was worn over the top of their underclothes. A knight’s suit of armour was made up of garments, chainmail and iron plate. The suit of armour covered the most exposed parts of the body. Suits were very expensive to make because they needed to fit perfectly. If they didn’t fit perfectly it could be extremely dangerous and could weaken the knight’s ability to fight. The quality of the knight’s armour told his status and how important he was the better the armour the more important the knight was.
